After 01.05.2004 the veterinary, phyto-sanitary and health controls are only conducted at EU external border control points.  

At present veterinary controls are applied at three road border control points approved by the EU Commission: - the Terehova and Paternieki border control points (in accordance with the EU Commission’s Decision No. 2004/273/EK, as of 18.03.2004), as well as at the Grebneva border control point (in accordance with the EU Commission’s Decision No. 2004/517/EK, as of 21.06.2004).

Phyto-sanitary and health controls are conducted at the following border control points:

  • On the roads:- Grebneva, Paternieki, Silene and Terehova border control points;
  • On railways at:- Daugavpils and Rezekne border control points;
  • At ports in: - Liepaja, Riga and Ventspils border control points;
  • At  Riga Airport;
  • At the international post office in Riga.

Veterinary, phyto-sanitary and health controls are performed by the Sanitary Border Inspection of the Republic of Latvia’s Ministry of Agriculture Foodstuffs and Veterinary Service.
