Welcome to Latvian transport and logistics portal!

Latvia is a perfect place to organize logistics –among the markets of the European Union, CIS and Asia. Multimodal transport corridors are passing through the territory of Latvia from East to West and from North to South. The main cargo flows, mainly transit, are moving from East to West through Latvian ports connecting Russia, CIS and Asian countries not only with Western Europe but with the whole world.

In 2017 the three large ice-free ports - Riga, Ventspils and Liepaja handled more than 61.9 million tons of cargo in total. Regular ferry traffic connects Latvia with Swedish and German ports. Container lines carry containers to many other ports in Baltic Sea as well as to ports of the European Union.

Common 1520 mm rail gauge system, as well as unified rail freight transportation organization system provide the CIS and Asian countries a direct access to Latvian ports in the European Union. Around half of all cargos are moved by rail. In 2017 43.8 million tons there were transported by rail. Major roads, rail routes, ports and airports are included in the EU Trans - European transport network - TEN-T. The largest investments in transport infrastructure – in ports, railways and roads – first of all are diverted to the transit directions. Latvian transit corridors are also well recognized in other international formats: the United Nations (UN), the main transport artery AGR (The European Agreement on main international traffic arteries) road network, rail network AGC (The European Agreement on Main International Railway Lines), the international combined transport Network AGTC (European Agreement on Important International Combined Transport Lines and Related Installations), Eurasian transport corridors EATL (The Euro Asian Transport Links) and OSJD (the Organization for Cooperation Between Railways) networks.

Latvia is active internationally. We  were coordinating country for the ASEM format during 2015 and 2016 in transport sector. Since 2016 the Secretariat of the Central and Eastern European countries and China's cooperation in the CEEC-China format 16 + 1 logistic has been created and operates in Latvia.
