On 5 September 2020, the Embassy of Latvia in China will launch VIA LATVIA digital stand at China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) in Beijing. The two and three-dimensional VIA LATVIA digital stand at CIFTIS 2020 showcases Latvian transport and logistics industry and enterprises by promoting safe, fast and effective services and solutions for cargo transportation, distribution and e-commerce shipments via Latvia to and from third markets.

Today China is Latvia’s largest two-way trading partner in goods and services in Asia. Geographically being the closest European Union country to the People’s Republic of China, Latvia is interested to further develop trade in tourism, commercial, transport and logistics services.

With its three main ice-free ports of Riga, Ventspils, and Liepaja, Latvia offers the distribution of goods within 24 to 48 hours to North Europe, Scandinavia and Western Europe. So far, several container train routes have been successfully organised between China and Europe via Latvia, connecting Riga with Yiwu, Urumqi, Kashi, Chengdu, Wuhan and Xi’an. Whilst, Riga International Airport has emerged as one of the leading regional aviation hubs for servicing passenger flows in Northern Europe, including regular e-commerce cargo charter flights from China to Europe, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and other countries.

The Ministry of Transport of Latvia with VIA LATVIA is actively promoting bilateral and multilateral cooperation, to attract foreign investment to upgrade and modernize transport and logistics infrastructure, expand industrial parks in the port areas, as well as to cooperate with overseas partners to organise supply chains and multimodal freight deliveries via Latvia.

The Ministry of Transport of Latvia is responsible for the formulation of aviation, maritime, road and rail transportation, as well as post and electronic communication policies in Latvia. Represented in China by Mr Helmuts Kols, the Counsellor of the Ministry of Transport at the Embassy of Latvia in China. For more information please visit: www.sam.gov.lv and www.vialatvia.com.
