From April 26-28, German cities of Lübeck and Hamburg hosted Latvian-German Port Days for the second time, aiming at strengthening the transport and logistics cooperation between the two countries. During this event, both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding, thus renewing the agreement that was signed by the largest ports of Latvia - Riga, Ventspils and Liepāja and the German ports of Hamburg and Lübeck in 2019. This event was attended by the president of Latvia Mr. Egils Levits, who gave an opening speech at the German Latvian Port Forum on April 27.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on April 28. This time it was signed by three parties – the head of the Latvian delegation, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport Mr. Uldis Reimanis and member of the board of the Association of Latvian Stevedoring Companies Mr. Jānis Kasalis from the Latvian side, and the head of the Port of Hamburg (HHM-Port of Hamburg Marketing) Axel Mattern from the German side. Both parties agreed that the signed memorandum will provide more opportunities to strengthen and expand cooperation between the two countries in the field of transit and logistics.
"This Memorandum will serve as a solid foundation for Latvia and Germany transport and logistics companies for further expansion of cooperation. Such high level measures are necessary - they show the common vision of the countries and entrepreneurs for business development and the search for new opportunities, which are essential in the current geopolitical situation" said Uldis Reimanis. During the Latvian-German Port Days, the Latvian delegation visited Ports of Hamburg and Lübeck, learning their operations and development plans. Likewise, members of the delegation met with German transport logistics companies, exchanging their business experience, and discussing about future cooperation opportunities.
The Latvian delegation gathered representatives from the largest Latvian transport and logistics institutions and companies, including the Ministry of Transport, Freeport of Riga, Freeport of Ventspils, Liepāja SEZ, JCS Latvian Railway ("Latvijas dzelzceļš") and many other Latvian transport and logistics companies.
